A new exhibitor at Royston Open Secrets and a great new resource for the local area is Build Train, based at BelleVue Farm, Royston. Owner and trainer, Peter Jones, has set up a facility where individuals and groups at all levels of capability can go to learn building and construction skills.
Peter told me,
Build Train of BelleVue Farm Royston
“I have enjoyed woodwork and carpentry since I was 9 years old and I want to share that enthusiasm with a wide range of people so that they can enjoy the fun. We have a variety of packages for inexperienced DIYers, people who want to gain qualifications and for those who want to work on their individual projects under expert supervision.
We’re not just talking about the men here. There has been a 92% increase in the levels of women enrolling on DIY courses this year alone so we offer Diva Days for groups of women who want to learn more DIY skills.
We also arrange corporate days which are great for team building while having fun and learning new skills.
At Royston Open Secrets we will be promoting our Father’s Day special. You can buy your Dad a unique gift of a 3 hours taster session, which includes a pint of beer and a ploughman’s lunch, for just £30. For £50 they can enjoy a whole day of tuition. All of our courses include materials, access to tools, tuition and supervision.
There is much more that we offer but have a look at our website http://www.buildtrain.co.uk/home.html for more information. Even better, come and have a chat with me on Sunday.”
I’m not sure I’m a Diva, Peter, but I will definitely be along for a chat.

Jane Wallington of Breeze Birthing is having a stand at Royston Open Secrets this year in order to spread the word about the benefits of hypnobirthing. Jane speaks from her own experience:
I have two daughters Ruby (5) and Jessica (4). Jessica is my hypnobirth baby. She was born quickly and calmly, even fast asleep in the water with no pain relief. She had no idea she had been born thanks to the gentle birth with no pushing and no trauma. This was no comparison to my first birth!!
Breeze Birthing at Royston Open Secrets
After that experience I knew my life would change and I trained to become a Hypnobirthing Practitioner, in the original American method, so I could empower other couples to have the birth they wanted.
BREEZE BIRTHING WAS BORN and it wasn’t long before I received a Gold Seal and registered as a FEDANT member. I later trained in the UK specific method The Wise Hippo, an easy to follow programme, and I now teach in Royston, Baldock and Biggleswade.
National awareness of Hypnobirthing has increased dramatically since then and I thought there’s no time like the present to exhibit at my local event- the perfect platform to help and empower many more hundreds of expectant parents to have the birth they deserve.
All of my mums and dads have had positive experiences, even one mum with MDCA Twins (shared placenta). Both girls Tiger- Lily and Freida were born within 8 hours naturally and with no pain relief. I love to see the mums and dads looking calm, relaxed and looking forward to their births, even after Class One!
As my couples say ‘The only way to have a baby’! I want to get the local community talking about Hypnobirthing or even just to plant a seed in the minds of those who have yet to have children.
I will be offering a FREE Pregnancy Relaxation MP3 Track to all those who provide their email address- a fantastic insight into Hypnobirthing.
Come and chat to Jane and find out more on 8th June. She will happily answer all your questions. http://www.breezebirthing.com/
This year we are welcoming Kate Hart of Freedom 2 Change back to Royston Open Secrets. Kate missed last year’s event due to her busy schedule.
Kate Hart at Royston Open Secrets
She told me:
I first exhibited at Royston Open Secrets in 2010, at that stage it was known as Hidden Secrets. I’ve exhibited every year since apart from last year when my holiday clashed with it. I’m looking forward to being back at Open Secrets after my absence from it last year as it gives me the opportunity to talk to people about my products as well as giving me a chance to meet other local businesses.
I will have a wide range of my Aloe Vera Products, including the Aloe Drinking Gel on my stall. Most of the products can be sampled on the day and questions about them can be answered. I will also have the very popular Clean 9 pack, together with lots of information and advice about the benefits of it. Please feel free to come and have a chat with me.
You can find out more about Kate and her healthy products at www.freedom2change.co.uk Welcome back Kate!
A newcomer to Royston Open Secrets this year is Jon Osmond of MRS, The Silverball Garage, Reed. Jon is a man of few words so when I asked him to describe his business he said, “We’re a friendly family business. Helpful”.
MRS, Silverball Garage, Reed
Jon has never advertised his services so all of his business comes from client referrals. That says a lot about how he looks after his customers. He provides the following services:
- MOTs – Motorcycle, Moped, Cars and light commercials
- MOT repairs
Jon provides a collection and delivery service in the Reed and Royston area and evening servicing.
Come and chat to Jon on 8th June or see more at http://www.mrsrepairs.co.uk/
This week I managed to catch up with the amazingly busy Linda Turner. Linda is both the founder and Chairwoman of Royston Open Secrets and the owner of Linda Turner Interiors. Linda told me:
“I can hardly believe that this is the sixth year of Royston Open Secrets. From its small beginnings at the Banyers in 2009, Open Secrets is now an established date in the Royston calendar. Every year it gets bigger and more spectacular. This year we have classic cars, displays by dance schools, presentations by schools, a magician, a choir and of course it is an important opportunity for the Royston businesses and community organisations to showcase what they can offer.
Linda Turner Interiors at Royston Open Secrets 2013
Linda Turner Interiors is a local business without a shopfront. In previous years I have brought along my distinctive van and opened up the rear doors so that visitors can see the amazing range of fabrics, curtain poles and accessories that I bring to my clients’ homes. Last year I created part of a small room setting. You will have to wait and see what I bring along this year.
Other businesses bring their products or information about the services. They all tell me that they love being able to talk to potential customers and answer their questions in a relaxed and friendly environment. That’s why so many of them come back every year.
Last year we had schools represented for the first time and they had such fun I think they will become a fixture at the event. We might have some exciting developments for them next year but you’ll have to wait to hear more about that!
We have booked the sun for 8th June and I’m looking forward to welcoming big crowds.”
There are a few stands still available so if you are a business in the SG8 postal area and you would like to promote your business to local customers, contact Linda on 01763 223216
The Committee of Royston Open Secrets are expecting a new arrival – or several – at this year’s event. And we’re all very excited about it.
Brulee of Royston Veterinary Centre
If you have attended Open Secrets in the last three years you have probably met Brulee, the Yellow Labrador belonging to Margaret White of Royston Veterinary Centre. Margaret has told us that Brulee is in whelp and the puppies are expected on 8th June. Margaret said:
“Brulee was a birthday present from my husband David. We had always intended to breed her and at three and a half years old she is in her prime for having puppies. Unlike humans, dogs tend to give birth on their due date so I will not be bringing Brulee to the show this year but I will be keeping visitors informed of her progress. We know that she is having at least 3 puppies.”
Come and see Margaret at the event and find out how Brulee is doing. Perhaps you could suggest some names for the puppies. http://www.roystonvets.com/
Siobhan Costello, business coach and networking guru, visited Royston Open Secrets and couldn’t really enjoy the event because she was so busy kicking herself! She realised she had missed out on having a stand at such a lively event. She is not making the same mistake this year.
Siobhan Costello at Royston WIBN
Siobhan told me:
When I came to Open Secrets last year, I loved the variety of businesses in the room and the energy and good feeling that was created. I saw it as a great opportunity to promote Women in Business Network in Royston. There are so many businesses in Royston and Open Secrets is an ideal forum for connecting with the business community in the area.
I am having a stand this year so that I can promote WIBN and show how businesses can benefit from joining the Royston group to help them grow their businesses. WIBN is a networking organisation that helps women in business to grow their businesses in a supportive and unpressurised environment.
WIBN Royston is delighted to be involved in this year’s Open Secrets event. We are new to the Royston and see Open Secrets as a great way to connect with the business community and to add value to the networking experience of women in business in the area.
Siobhan will be happy to answer your questions about WIBN at the event. You can also see more at http://www.wibn.co.uk/group/127/members/70

We are a Ford Retail Dealer – so we offer sales and service and we also specialize in all makes service and repairs. We have a body shop and a Rapid Fit tyre and exhaust center
